How To Turn Your New Year’s Resolutions Into Goals

How To Turn Your New Year’s Resolutions Into Goals

Recollecting and re-evaluating a few of our life choices, many of us consider New Year as an opportunity to embrace long-term goals. And since New Year’s Resolutions are perceived differently worldwide, a tradition for one may be cliché for another. But let’s be honest, everyone makes at least one resolution whether it’s building a new habit or establishing a business venture.

Of course, the idea behind resolutions is to press that restart button and begin a new chapter of your life. But we know there’s a vast difference between meaning to do something and actually doing it. Oftentimes it doesn’t work according to your plan, especially a habit you desire to change. When an obstacle becomes difficult for you to overcome, you gradually lose interest and finally give up. Regardless, it’s ultimately your decision whether you are adamant to bring change or want to continue living life in your safe cocoon.

Now, I have some points to share before you take a step back or decide to take the safe route, which will turn your New Year’s Resolutions into your prominent goals. By considering these essential tips on How To Turn Your New Year’s Resolutions Into Goals, your 2022 goals will not be impossible to achieve.

Prioritise Your Choice And Be Disciplined

Your fate literally hangs between ‘acting on’ or ‘not acting’ in achieving your New Year’s Resolutions. That’s the thing. Our desires are uncontrollable sometimes and we get caught up in an illusion of materialism happiness. Priority and desires may seem alike yet are so different, and once you cave in; you’re more likely to cave in over and over again. Take, for instance, your New Year’s resolution to cut down on impulse shopping. But seeing your friends making the most of season sales on a girls day out creates a familiar sensation and you’re tempted with a covet-worthy object right in front of your face; what’s the harm in one purchase, right? Wrong. When you build the discipline to follow through, the magic of achieving those resolutions happens. Try ignoring those impulses once, and watch how powerfully you can exert change in your surrounding air.

Remarkable Results Await Our Commitment

Achieving bigger goals in life is a tough row to hoe; you can only experience the sweet smell of victory when you are unwilling to compromise with the smaller tasks. You thus, by your consent, are trapped in a never-ending battle. So, minimize your distractions, stop procrastinating, and set up a to-do list. Besides, a dedicated commitment is essential. Looking to quit smoking? But watching your friend light up a cigarette at a party produces nicotine’s “feel good” effect on your brain… How about making a pros and cons list that will help you to differentiate between a physical addiction vs. a healthy lifestyle, and thus neutralize your impulse. Then commit to it whole-heartedly until you cut off the undesirables. And remember, when you commit to small changes, it’s easier to convert them into something bigger.

Finally, We’re Only Human…

It’s in our nature to make mistakes. Our proposed New Year’s Resolutions may suffer from our mixed drink of contradictions, but these mistakes don’t drop a hint at giving up. Develop the mental resilience to constantly push yourself through so you don’t let your goals burn to ashes. And while all of this may sound repetitive ~ repetition is what produces meaningful results.

My key argument today is that we are frequently guilty of making New Year’s Resolutions while missing the more critical aspects of achieving goals: Commitment, Discipline and Persistence. Make these three qualities a priority and watch all your hard work, sacrifices and struggles pay off. A closing piece of advice: Trust your instincts and nothing can stop your 2022 resolutions from turning into a reality!

This year, if you absolutely must set New Year’s Resolutions, make it to set goals. In the comments below, feel free to share what you do to make it more likely that your next resolution will be achieved!

  • Beautiful you and fabulous images! Elegance personified. ❤️

To add to your post, I would say there are two kinds of goals. The kind that is in your control and the kind that isn’t. I have a list of both kinds of goals in my notebook, to remind me at least once a week to focus on things I can actually control.

  • Thank you, Tanya, for this beautiful post on goal setting. You have described it so aptly.

Every time your conversations/posts leave us with new positive thoughts. Yes, our friendship has become beyond time and space. ❤️

  • The joy and comfort of a precious, beautiful start to the New Year are unmatched! ❤️ Loved this beautiful post.

You have such a rich collection of write-ups, and it’s a sheer delight seeing your pictures and reading through your work. ❤️ Cheers!

  • It’s definitely scary to put my goals/dreams out there, but I think it makes them stronger and less like gossamer and liable to float away. I’m going to make a list like this before the end of the year!

p.s. Love the dress and you look especially elegant in it. ❤️

  • Enjoyed reading this post. Really feel the need to get better at setting resolutions. Of course, I don’t want to be overwhelmed with too many… 😀

On that note, you add your own grace and elegance to make any outfit so much more beautiful!

  • Amazing post and you look as elegant, as always. ❤️

❤️ I love this pastel colour a lot. I have a belief that no one can look anything less than beautiful in it. And this is true for your pictures, too.

  • This is really inspiring and I love it! ❤️ My main goal is to continue taking each day one at a time and let myself not feel guilty about the days when I need to take things slower than usual.

On a side note: Loving your elegance and vibe in this gorgeous look!

  • Loved reading your personal take on goal setting transcending through time and space. Very inspiring. Every time I read, I feel like I’m learning a drop from the ocean. ✨✨✨

  • Very beautiful pictures. The glow on your face is enchanting. ❤️

I guess I’m just hoping to work consistently and be grateful for the opportunity to do so. Best of luck on all of your goals and dreams, Tanya. ❤️

  • This is so inspiring – knowing your goal is half the battle alone! I hope you keep writing and sharing your beautiful thoughts, Tanya.

  • Broke out some wine to contemplate resolutions. 😀

Resolution number one: try harder to support women + POC not just in the arts, but whenever I’m buying a product or service. (Sometimes it means doing some research or mail ordering instead of just grabbing what’s on the shelf, but it feels worthwhile.)

  • Keeping my goals and resolutions simple for 2022: To be kind, love one another, celebrate all the milestones, travel more, dance, sing, live a healthy lifestyle, have fun, read, create. ❤️❤️❤️

  • I love your blog posts, Tanya. You are so talented! ❤️

    So, here goes…
    new year, better me.⠀
    more focused me,⠀
    more committed me,⠀
    more resilient me,⠀
    a bolder me,⠀
    take more chances me,⠀
    believe bigger me.⠀

  • I loved the post! My New Year’s resolutions are in full force – well, for now at least. 🙂 That being said, I’m all for a fresh start and the opportunity to chase down goals, but I’m not about the guilt & self-sabotaging behaviour that comes with not being able to meet or sustain said goals.

  • Beautiful work, as always. I definitely want to focus on Journaling: writing things I’m grateful for every day – things that I can do to make my day better. Also, to do positive affirmations each day. Setting the tone for your day with the thoughts you put it has an immense impact!

  • This is so inspiring. ✨✨✨ I would love to practice more consistency, in my health habits (drinking more water, eating more greens, working out 3x a week). Also for my social media, sharing more inspirational and educational content.

  • I think we can all agree 2021 probably held us back with some things we wanted to accomplish, places we wanted to go to, etc. etc. Soooo all things being {almost} normal, I think for me, there are a couple of fitness-related goals I have with regards to new formats I may want to teach or skills I want to attain.

On another note: You have an enviable wardrobe and you carry everything you wear so gracefully. ❤️

  • This is incredible – there is so much to learn from you, Tanya!

Personally, I want to do a road trip home to see my family, and get to somewhere warm for a vacation! Considering I haven’t been out of the city in almost a year, maybe just getting off can be a goal too!

  • Lovely, as always! ❤️ Tanya, I’ve been following you on your other platforms for a while… LOVE your work! Looking forward to connecting more and watching you crush your goals for this year!

  • Wow, such a beautiful post. This is what we would also aspire to achieve in our lives! Just so you know, I have always admired your way of life and your meticulous appearance. ❤️

  • What a beautiful post, Tanya. The pictures make this all the more precious. So much to learn from you about discipline and simple living. Thank you for sharing. ❤️

  • Discipline is indeed the key to overall well being; felt very happy to see your new post. 🙂 And, what adorable pictures of you! Thanks for sharing, totally loved reading it!

  • Beautiful post. Really admire these writings!

For 2022, I am committed to the areas of my life that I want to focus on rather than being distracted by outside influences.

  • Always on point in your writing! ❤️ Personally, I don’t like New Year’s Resolutions. It’s not that I’m opposed to setting goals and making changes, I just don’t think that there should be so much of an emphasis on it one day out of the year. It’s a lot of pressure…⁣

  • My biggest goal is to be brave and make my dream designs come true; entering and winning design awards where possible. Here we go 2022… I’m ready!

  • This is just so beautifully stated! ✨ I try to keep my list short and focus on the really important ones. This year I am focusing on my personal growth. I am not planning any travels, and instead, I’m planning to visit some beautiful local places which I haven’t seen yet.

  • You look gorgeous, Tanya! ❤️

We all know that our mental health and physical wellness are what keep us moving in a positive light. Let that light shine bright in 2022.

  • I think it’s time to re-evaluate, reassess, and most importantly, give thanks! As I read everyone’s New Year’s resolutions, I kept thinking of how important it is at this time of year to be kind to oneself. Truly allow yourself to feel gratitude for a year of progress ❤️. You deserve to celebrate it all.

  • If 2021 taught me anything, it’s that slowing down and enjoying the little things in life is what ACTUALLY fills my soul the most! ❤️ On that note, as always, you rock any ensemble and this one is no exception!

  • Many thanks, Tanya, for these wonderful thoughts.

There’s just too much going on at the transition of the calendar year to really let the fresh beginning shine the way I want it to… But perhaps my goal this year should be to take care of all 3 – Mind, Body and Soul – not just one or the other.

  • We can only aspire to that level of commitment. My word for 2022 is Mindful. Bringing greater mindfulness and awareness to all areas of my life: family, food, movement, social media usage, and how I organize my business. ✨
