Deepam Celebrations in Silk
Pramila, founder and managing director of Deepam, had a chat with me, where she shared insight on Deepam’s new collection. The brand itself is very well known, being in the market for over four decades.
Tanya Fontes: What/who inspired Deepam Celebrations in Silk’s Spring 2016 collection?
Pramila Deepam: This Spring collection was inspired by and has been designed for the Woman of Substance.
Tanya Fontes: Who is the woman you envision when you design your collections? Who do you see wearing your sarees?
Pramila Deepam: I would say the ideal woman I have in my mind is a Diva. She is confident about herself, poised, and at the same time can be playful and mysterious.
To answer the next part of your question, I see a woman like Aishwarya Rai wearing Deepam sarees. We had designed the gorgeous saree she wore to Tirupati, at the time of her wedding.
Tanya Fontes: How do you determine trends? How do you keep it fresh every season?
Pramila Deepam: It really involves a lot of research, and a lot of the time it is a gut feeling that I go with. I take a moment to reflect on the next collection, and things just fall into place. I find a direction and a new collection comes out.
I also think inspiration is the most important part for me because it sets the tone for everything I do.
Tanya Fontes: How would you describe your own personal style?
Pramila Deepam: I think it’s similar to what I described for the woman I envision; Glamorous, Sophisticated, and Fun!
The prettiness never ends! I’d love to have you share your thoughts on Deepam Silks’ new collection in the comments below!
