Award-Winning Restaurant Black Pearl
An interview with Vandana Upadhyay, my dear friend, and owner of the award-winning restaurant Black Pearl in Bangalore.
Tanya Fontes: Award-winning restaurant Black Pearl is known for its aesthetics; could you describe the interior and decor.
Vandana Upadhyay: Black Pearl is designed like a Pirate Ship, with a central ‘grand hall’ to depict olden day grandeur. There are ‘side decks’ which make you feel like you are dining right next to the ocean with blue-lit circular windows.
And for those who want that extra wind in their hair, there is our special ‘Captain’s Deck’. The chairs are designed like a pirate’s rib cage. You also have a mast with a pirate flag right in the middle to remind you that you are dining like a true pirate.
Tanya Fontes: What are some of the items on the menu that are unique to Award Winning Restaurant Black Pearl? What should first-time visitors try?
Vandana Upadhyay: The Pirate’s Peri Peri Chicken is our very unique rendition of the famous Portuguese style barbeque. The Honey Cinnamon Pineapple sliced directly from a pirate’s sword gives you a true ‘slice’ of the Pirate’s palette! From the live Pirate Grill, the baby Octopus in spicy mint sauce and Rabbit chunks in smoky barbeque sauce remain all-time favourites.
Tanya Fontes: Do you have a favourite mantra that keeps you inspired?
Vandana Upadhyay: At Black Pearl, our mantra is ‘wholesome dining experience’. Our dining concept revolves around a unique theme ambience, a pampering elaborate buffet spread including some amazing barbecues and a live grill, combined with some of the best live artists for that soothing cherished dining experience.
Tanya Fontes: What is your vision for your business?
Vandana Upadhyay: Our effort is to distinguish ourselves with a unique ‘experiential dining’ concept that revolves around an interesting theme, lovely participative music, and of course, great service and lip-smacking food from across the globe ~ all under one roof!

Trying to come up with something interesting enough to engage a reader is no easy task. I know blogging is good for one’s soul – but when you are sleep-deprived and over-worked, creative thought processes are a distant memory. Thank you for constantly being a source of inspiration, Tanya!
