The Biggest Micro Brewery in Bangalore | Big Pitcher
For those of you who love Breweries, Big Pitcher on Old Airport Road is the biggest Micro Brewery in Bangalore, where each of their traditionally themed craft beers has a detailed explanation of the brewing recipe and the food that would best compliment it.
The Micro Brewery is housed in an imposing building spread across six spacious floors, where glass-wood-stone-metal come together offering up several seating options. I found the façade with its geometrical design arresting, but it’s the luminous copper vats behind a large glass window that will keep you captivated for those few seconds longer.
Big Pitcher serves scrumptious Asian, Mediterranean, and Continental cuisine along with an assortment of thirst quenchers and spirits. The fresh brews on tap are Adjust Maadi {Hop Twisted Dry Hefeweizen}, Czech that pilsner {Wild Cat Slav Lager}, Sarava! {Suspiciously Brazilian Witbier}, Kingslayer {Medieval Dark Wheat Ale} which is their strongest brew, and Hop Witch {Single-Hop mutating Ale}. Brewmaster Venkatesh organised a brewery tour, and also explained the process behind naming each beer and the entire process of brewing.
From their unending menu, I settled on these:
Appetisers:
- Tampiquena Beef ~ Fried to perfection, with just the right amount of spicy zest, this was a winner.
- Mexi Chilli Lamb ~ Slightly crisp on the outside & deliciously tender inside.
- Oriental Chicken Wings ~ The soy sauce in combination with the crispy skin of the chicken created a mouth-watering sweet, robust combination.
- Pepper Blast Prawns ~ Each bite began with a serene mellowness that slowly transformed into a full-bodied spice hit.
Salad & Soup:
- Prawn Islander Shrimp Salad ~ This salad was a visual delight. The shrimp were a good size, moist and succulent; the iceberg greens really fresh, and the serving was generous.
- Tom Kha Soup ~ This silky, aromatic soup was absolutely delicious and a complete meal in a bowl. The Kaffir lime really added a good taste as a garnish.
Entrée:
With flavours from across the globe, every dish I was presented with, beautifully celebrated ingredients and condiments.
- Prawn Dim Sum ~ With perfectly cooked prawns, every mouthful was a flavour pop.
- Thai Chicken Green Curry ~ Delicious curry, very fragrant and mild. It wasn’t quite liquidy, but that’s a true Thai curry.
- Penne Arrabiata ~ A wonderfully simple and flavourful pasta dish with just a hint of chilli blending in really well with the tomato; served with a liberal sprinkling of Parmesan cheese.
Dessert:
Every dessert on the menu seduces.
- Sizzling Walnut Brownie with Fried Ice Cream ~ Rich and delicious! Walnuts really make the difference with this treat.
- Trio Chocolate Mousse ~ This decadent mousse featured dark and white chocolate garnished with chocolate shavings for an extra special effect.
- Flambé Gulab Jamison ~ Stuffed Gulkhand Jamoon with Rum Flambé; a delicious, flavourful, and exotic treat! Lighting the rum on fire caramelises the sugar, and really pulls out the flavour of the jamoon.
