Q&A with Fashion Model Deepika

Q&A with Fashion Model Deepika

Modelling seems like the ultimate glamorous life: being dressed by designers, walking runways, going to fabulous parties… But making it from anywhere to the hallowed runways is no easy task.

Today I caught up with Fashion Model Deepika, for a behind-the-scenes look at Bangalore Fashion Week; how she got here, and what it takes to look the way she does.

Tanya Dhar: Deepika, let’s start by asking how you started your modelling career.

Deepika: I started my modelling career by attending auditions for, and subsequently being selected for, Bangalore Fashion Week, one year ago. Since then I have not looked back. I consider myself a creative person, and enjoy that modelling allows me to get creative on the ramp.

Tanya Dhar: What does your lifestyle look like to maintain a model’s physique?

Deepika: Fitness has never been a necessity for me but it has been my lifestyle. I enjoy dancing at the Shiamak Davar Dance Institute and it is a part of my everyday exercise schedule; apart from that, I head to the gym at least 3-5 times a week.

I enjoy good food, but in the right proportion. I am and have always been a strong proponent of ~ fit for life and not for the time being.

Tanya Dhar: What do you think ~ besides good genes ~ is more determining to get and maintain a model’s physique: exercise or diet?

Deepika: In my opinion, our body needs good food to recover our muscles. I have learned that to get a great body, 70 to 80 % is about eating right and 30 to 20 % is about exercise. As they say: You are what you eat.

Tanya Dhar: What advice would you give someone starting as a model and walking during fashion week?

Deepika: You may not be the most beautiful person but you must be creative enough to transform with every look. You have to figure out what it is that you’re portraying; and if you stay true to that, people will respect you for it.
