The fashion label ‘Purvi Doshi’, is a tribute to India’s hand-crafted traditions. The label celebrates India’s crafts and weaves by combining traditional techniques with contemporary designs molded into beautiful nature-friendly and eco-fabulous clothing. It chronicles and restores heirloom traditions from the heart of India’s villages, and fashions them into contemporary tales while working closely with artisans and helping them create a better livelihood.

Purvi Doshi presents ‘Rhythms of the Desert’ inspired by the dunes of Gujarat

In the calm of the desert, the drum beats resonate across the horizon. This colourful embodiment sets the scene for Purvi Doshi’s collection ‘Rhythms of the Desert’. “Sustainability” at its root and “Make in India” in its soul, the collection uses purely hand-woven India-made Khadi fabric. This collection is one more move towards popularising these forgotten arts that help generate employment at the source and go a long way towards keeping it alive.

Geometric patterns with floral highlights in vibrant colours form the structure of these garments, which are also inspired by the gypsies of the desert who are an integral part of the folk art of India. With a mirage of Gujarati mirror-work, and brilliantly coloured Parsi embroideries incorporated in contemporary designs and silhouettes, Purvi hopes to bring you the essence of the desert through her collection, while taking you to the serene setting of the wilderness.

In a sea of glittering ethnic-wear at Bangalore Fashion Week, the Ahmadabad-based designer stood out with her understated take on traditional ensembles that pay homage to the desert.
