How to Style the Pastel Trend

Sun’s out, guns out, to paraphrase my excitement! While there still are a couple of true weeks of spring left, summer has been making surprise appearances here and there. Whether through delicate rays of light that feels like a jolt of energy or by way of summer style sneakily making its way into my wardrobe. Yes, this time of year is all about splashes of colour, exciting prints, and flowy outfits, and I personally, cannot wait!

Every year I find myself a closet favourite {which is a trend I like to keep all through the season} and this year, I have gone with timeless pastels. With my attention on all shades of sunshine, and hues that bring a sense of lightness to my ensemble. With a light summer aesthetic, pastels are the perfect way of welcoming summer with just the right amount of colour play, concealed by a shadow of subtlety. I have also found that the perfect pastel outfit is complete when paired with key jewellery pieces.

Cool or warm, pastels are at their finest when worn as a uniform colour from top to toe, giving a chic yet casual vibe to match your summer vibe.

How to Style the Pastel Trend: Pastels, in my opinion, are an easy pick to represent all things happy! And the world of pastel colours have so much to offer; they seem like the perfect fit to give us a perfect visualisation. Yes, this type of colouring brings to mind, sunshine peeking through the meadows and candies and naughty innocence. It also brings to mind luxury on a sunny afternoon and a gentle life. An evergreen trend, the beauty of pastel colours lies in the fact that it has nested itself so beautifully into trends; the innocence and subtlety of the hues make them a timeless masterpiece if worn right.

Summer is the best time to experiment with colour palettes, and what better way of bidding adieu to boring winter greys than by shifting to pretty pastels. Timeless as they are, pastel colours are the perfect choice for any occasion ~ flexing themselves as a stance for professionalism if worked into a smart pantsuit for a meeting with agencies or fashion houses, or cheeky and playful, when worn as a dress at an afternoon soiree/high tea {sight of true summer!}. With a pop of floral from a silk scarf or a stunning crystal necklace set ~ this season is all about basking in the warmth of the climate and having your outfit uplift your summer spirits instantly.

When your look is a simple and solid coloured one, the added subtle jewellery or accessories really do capture one’s attention and give the whole ensemble a rather sweet appeal.

A family heirloom if you may, generations of women in my family have obsessed over Chanderi, and that obsession has seeped deep into my roots. Thus being no different from the rest of my clan, I prefer Chanderi dresses and tunics over any other! I’ve been investing in these classics for a while and find their mix of high/low styles, the convenience of their pastel colour options, and the versatility in their silhouettes ~ perfect for both work and casual-wear.

Style tip: Chanderi is my style statement and I have mentioned this a few times in my previous posts, but I would love for my readers to remember that while it is great to follow the latest trends, it is equally important for your style to be in tune with your personality. So, if you are just starting with adding pastels to your style, baby steps might be necessary to get you into the mindset.

A touch of innocence, a touch of summer, and a touch of everything sugary ~ place this particular style at the top of your wardrobe designs this season.

A few pointers I’d like to put out there for my readers to keep it simple and chic this summer are ~

  1. A light casual hairdo: Summer is all about the casual vibe and beach aesthetic, so always remember to keep your hairstyle the same ~ simple and fun! Allow pastel clothing to be your centre of attention, especially if soft and feminine is what you are going for.
  2. Do away with the extra: Always remember that pastels, unlike monochrome outfits, look beautiful even with minimal detailing {no need to add lace or bring out the ribbons}. A perfect pastel look should have limited additions to allow femininity and elegance to take centre stage.
  3. Keep it single, silly: To elevate your look, the key rule is to keep accessorising at its minimal. If you’re pairing your outfit with an elegant clutch, then do away with jewellery or vice versa. Start small to see big differences.
  4. Layer up: The best way of working pastels into your outfit is by wearing it as an outer layer. The easy transition doesn’t spin your wardrobe a whole 360 degrees and gives your outfit a straight-up runway aesthetic ~ with just a camisole, a blazer, or a shrug even.
  5. Statement footwear: Elevate your outfit with a final touch of bold and textured sandals. A darker shade breaks away from the pastel hue giving it that added allure.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this Chanderi inspiration for bringing a sense of sun and fun into your own wardrobe. Here’s to hoping the season shows face soon!
