The Iconic Bomber Jacket

The Iconic Bomber Jacket

Why The Bomber Jacket Is Your New Wardrobe Staple

The iconic bomber jacket is definitely the “it” jacket right now and it’s the perfect layering piece for cool fall days

High noon or sultry midnight escapades – the iconic bomber jacket is a do-it-all-style that can be worn for all of spring, summer, and fall! The runway has seen designers bring out the best of their creative talent adding elements like futuristic florals to dizzyingly flashy metallics to monochrome classics to produce some outstanding variations of this 90’s style jacket. And I simply feel that it’s time to trade delicate, dependable looks for sultry ones by the single addition of a bomber jacket to your wardrobe.

While I’m a big fan of the style, bomber jackets are not always easy to pull off. It needs a careful understanding of proportions, and creating your signature look largely stands on your ability to pair it right. To add a powerful pop of colour I went with a satin one from Mango. It is currently on sale and I loved it from the moment I set my eyes on it. With its distinctive colour and embroidery in a contrasting thread, this jacket looks like a vintage bomber, and I love that there are so many different ways that I can wear this jacket. I also wanted to invest in a piece that will last more than one season. But style hardly follows the “one size fits all” ideology, so find a jacket that fits your fashion philosophy and is actually relevant to your closet – keep it classic, and most importantly, have fun!

Here are a few pointers in wearing bomber jackets in the most flattering way:

  1. Dressing up a bomber jacket is very simple, and the look I have on, I believe, is the most effortless to assemble. For a versatile, every day look, pair your go-to jeans with your favourite basic tee {if you do not have a preference for t-shirts, then a button-down shirt would work to your advantage}, and then wear your bomber jacket over top. I’ve paired this gorgeous aqua-green satin Mango bomber with my favourite pair of jeans, and super comfy Nike Boots to complete my look. But on a warm day you could wear slip-ons or some pretty sandals too. This style would be perfect to wear to the mall or on a casual coffee date with your girl friends.
  2. Another way to sport this look would be – monochromatic. Monochrome holds a special place in my heart. There is an allure in the basic use of the same colour for the top & bottom which allows you to layer with an exciting new shade adding an extra element & texture to your overall look. It also makes you see the entire look through a brighter more beautiful lens. This jacket has such amazing detail that I’d keep the rest of my look simple so that the bomber catches the eye. This style would be perfect to wear on a flight or for running errands.
  3. Last but not least, trade your delicate dreamy looks for one with a grunge twist by pairing your bomber jacket with your favourite maxi dress or silk skirt for date night with your special someone. You can also rock the style with a pair of heavy boots giving you the perfect look for transitioning into fall. Pairing the right handbag with your outfit really polishes the look off. Quite frankly, I could wear this bomber jacket with everything – it isn’t just a great way to layer up, but it also serves well as a travel companion {my secret to travelling light :)}.

End note: The iconic bomber jacket is the perfect addition to your wardrobe, because when done right, it can really level up your fashion game. Pairing a bomber with pieces that you already have may not be difficult either but remember to understand colour and proportions to ensure that your jacket complements the rest of your look. With the season dropping hints at chilly winters ahead, now is the time to invest in a bomber jacket that can see you through the colder days in style.
