Q&A with makeup artist Romi Thokchom

Ever wondered how makeup artists prepare for Bangalore Fashion Week?

I caught up with makeup artist Romi Thokchom, and asked her about the amazing work she does every season. Nothing like some behind-the-scenes gossip to get us excited for BFW!

Q&A with makeup artist Romi Thokchom

Tanya Dhar: Describe your pre-fashion week feelings in three words.

Romi Thokchom: Three wouldn’t suffice. 😊 I am super excited to witness the Vogue!

Tanya Dhar: What trends do you hope will surface for Spring/Summer 2016?

Romi Thokchom: A fresh and fiery tan sheen coupled with bright lips, and sensual colours on the eyes ~ a soft orange, rose quartz pink, lilac grey ~ finished off with defined eyeliner in electric bold colours ~ candy apple, buttercup yellow, and bolts of glitter.

Tanya Dhar: Do you have an all-time favourite makeup look?

Romi Thokchom: Tone with a skin toner and apply a good moisturiser. Highlight my eyebrows, and follow up with a studio fix compact. Use Mascara liberally, followed with bright lips and finished with a little blush on my cheeks.

Tanya Dhar: Name one product in your kit that works for every model, no matter their skin tone or type.

Romi Thokchom: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade. It’s really great for highlighting dark skin and contouring fair skin. Everyone wins.

Tanya Dhar: There are so many trends that come down the runway. What is your advice for women at home who want to translate these looks from runway to real world?

Romi Thokchom: You need to keep in mind that runway looks are produced as part of a fashion fantasy, and hence may not work on everyone. I would advise you to choose the looks that you like, and make them more wearable by toning them down a bit. It’s about experimenting without going overboard!

Tanya Dhar: Any crazy/funny backstage stories?

Romi Thokchom: What happens backstage stays backstage. My lips are sealed!

I hope you had as much fun reading this interview as I had taking it!
