A sneak preview of Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2017

Since the turn of the century, Pantone has been known to reflect the current cultural climate when it comes to selecting the colour of the year. For the year 2017, we see a 180 degree turn from this year’s pastel hues ~ Serenity and Rose Quartz, to the chosen colour “Greenery” {Pantone 15-0343} ~ symbolising awareness towards burning issues of deforestation, pollution, and destruction of our natural resources.

A trendsetter in all facets of design ~ fashion, architecture, travel, and more, “Greenery” symbolises: a fresh start towards conservation, going organic, and the beautiful outdoors. But more significantly, the yellow-green hue is a hint towards our responsibility in preserving the “environment” for future generations; reflecting the mood of many while emphasising the power of the “go green” movement. People are being inspired to disengage from technology and to go out and rediscover the wonders of the natural world.

“Greenery” also signifies harmony and community building; connection with self, and with others, and a purpose that is beyond self. From artists going green, to motivational speakers talking about the concept in their speeches, to global organisations making it mandatory for employees to contribute in some way towards the movement ~ Greenery ultimately highlights the ‘re-’ words: renew, refresh, restore, revive, reinvigorate, rejuvenate, re-oxygenate… So, get ready to reconnect with nature in 2017!
