SIIMA 2017 Day 2

You may access #SIIMA2017 Day 1 here

Abu Dhabi has an eye for all things beautiful. From its exquisite mosques to the glistening skyscrapers, there is beauty in every façade of the city and it is not afraid to reach out for more. Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority {TCA Abu Dhabi} collaborated with the prestigious South Indian International Movie Awards {SIIMA} with title sponsor Vivo this year. In a city that shines brightly and has a reputation for challenging world records, everything else looked a tad paler as popular South Indian Cinema stars brought the excitement of a new kind to the capital city of UAE for the two-day extravaganza. SIIMA has constantly supported the need for South Indian Movie celebrities to be recognised across global horizons by creating an engaging platform that recognises talent and excellence, thereby helping them connect with an international fan base.

This trip wasn’t just my average excursion to a new city. This time, I was travelling with a new perspective. I was the ambassador of a product, and it delighted me to be a part of such an amazing affair.

I felt that there was so much to take in and so little time for all of it. On the afternoon of Day 2 of SIIMA in Abu Dhabi, which I visited in collaboration with Vivo, I decided to take a stroll around the hotel I was staying at, the Dusit Thani, and the beautiful expanse that enwraps the place. Since I wanted to be able to click enough photos of my experience, I made sure that my Vivo V5s handset never left my side throughout my visit to Abu Dhabi. The front camera is just perfect for selfies and it covers enough area in the background if you would like to capture the beauty of the place via a selfie.

The sun gently warmed up the city but the misty winds made sure that it didn’t get too hot. Between the city’s glorious beauty and the awe-inspiring SIIMA event which brought me face-to-face with some of my favourite South India Cinema stars ~ I found myself clicking away… it was all just too pretty to be ignored!

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who wanted to make the most of the two-day event. #VIVOSIIMA 2017 had arranged for an afternoon session on the second day with Bollywood superstars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif ahead of their upcoming movie #JaggaJasoos. The press conference was hosted by Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi and it gave me the chance to see two of my favourite celebs up close.

The pair spoke about their movie giving away as little as possible about the plot and yet helping us with exciting details. Apart from talking about their movie being a children’s film, they also discussed the two popular songs of the movie, ‘Ulluka Patha’ and ‘Galti Se Mistake’. They made no bones about their love for South Indian Cinema and kept the entire conversation rather fun. For those of us who actually enjoy keeping tabs on what people wear, I was presented with the opportunity to ask the stars about their fashion choices during this press meet. I promise to share the entertaining conversation that ensued in a future post. 🙂

Katrina Kaif chose a colour-block printed Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2017 dress. She teamed her outfit with a pair of white embellished sandals by Sophia Webster. #DusitThaniAD

As for my look, that beautiful Emirati afternoon: Sunny afternoons yearn for the elegance of whites and ivories ~ a modest colour that can turn a simple appearance into a stunning one when matched with the right accessories. I wore a gorgeous Nicobar Chanderi creation complimenting the beautiful ivory of my kurta with elaborately detailed Amrapali earrings. My look resonated with my style and personality, and I completed my look with loose waves cascading down my shoulders. Brightly coloured lips and perfectly winged eyes created just the effect I wanted.

The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre had been transformed into a fantasy land for South Indian Cinema lovers that evening. High on energy, the venue looked glitzy in bright colours and dazzling lights. The stage was impeccable and the performances that graced the stage that evening were amazing!

The second day of the two-day SIIMA extravaganza was dedicated to recognizing the best talent in Malayalam and Tamil Cinema, where SIIMA presented awards under the theme of ‘Celebrating the Unity and Oneness of the South Indian Film Industries’.

The grand event was emceed by renowned actors Sathish and Dhanya Balakrishna. SIIMA 2017 aimed at ending with as big a bang as it had started. The final evening bore witness to heart-stopping performances by Shriya Saran, Nikki Galrani, Anu Sitara, Hansika Motwani, Manjima Mohan, and Mano. Popular South Indian movie stars who attended the event were Rana Daggubati, R Madhavan, Rakul Preet, Nivin Pauly, Trisha, Nayanthara, Sivakarthikeyan, Lakshmi Manchu, Mohan Babu, Anirudh Ravichander, and many more. Heightening the effervescence of the evening was a special appearance by Bollywood superstars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.

While the stage and all its performances have a magnetic allure, the red carpet is no less. The confidence, poise, and suave of the celebrities reflected beautifully in their stunning looks; they had no intention of settling for anything less than jaw-dropping responses from the fans. I captured these special moments on my Vivo V5s to share with you. I am glad that every single image turned out to be so awesome!

For the evening, I decided to match the brazen flamboyance of the SIIMA finale with a striking Gemstone Embellished Gold Soch Sari.

As I left the ADNEC, I knew I had experienced something truly special. All the mesmerism and excitement that I experienced in these two days could only be summed up as a dream come true! I remember growing up, watching these award-shows wide-eyed on the television ~ staying up late so that I didn’t miss out on any of the performances. And today, here I was, watching my favourite actors perform live ~ a thrill unlike any other! I’m sure whoever sat next to me could feel the loud thumping of my heart every time I heard the name of one of my favourites called to the stage!

Special thanks go to the Vivo team for handling the process so efficiently and for allowing me to experience SIIMA 2017!
